Pep Guardiola Admits Finding it Difficult to Catch Arsenal in EPL 2022/23
After a tumultuous 2021/22 campaign in the English Premier League, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola admits he is having difficulty finding motivation to catch Arsenal for the 2022/23 season.
Arsenal have accumulated an impressive 72 points over the course of the season, 15 points clear of the chasing pack at the time of writing. This is despite numerous injuries to key players and a form of stagnation from April onwards.
Pep Guardiola: Finding Simple Solutions to Difficult Problems
Pep Guardiola is renowned for always preaching simple solutions to difficult challenges. But, even with the return of Kevin De Bruyne and Fernandinho, Guardiola still feels that matching Arsenal’s form over the coming season will prove to be an insurmountable challenge:
“It’s very difficult for me to motivate myself to catch Arsenal next season. They’ve been exceptional this year and I can’t see any of us really challenging them. We need to find a way to bridge the gap, but it won’t be easy.”
United and Spurs Battling for Second Spot
Meanwhile, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are both level with City on 57 points, and will battle it out for second spot over the remaining weeks of the season. This can be seen as a battle for bragging rights, as the two sides will be vying for the same Champions League spot, with Arsenal expected to seal the title.
Key Factors to City’s Success in 2022/23
- A consistent number of injuries from April onwards
- Implementing creative teamtactics to bridge the gap
- Adding depth to the squad for upcoming seasons
- Focusing on long-term development rather than short-term results
- Competing for the title with a consistent team selection
With Guardiola’s men still looking for stability, it appears that Arsenal are going to be the ones to beat in 2022/23. But, can Manchester City close the gap, or will they continue to struggle? We will have to wait and see.
